Gary was nominated to the Board by one of our four shareholders Imagine Better.
He is Ngati Porou and a disabled person. He’s been directly involved in the disability sector all of his life and for at least the last 35 years, he’s been active in the governance and management of various sector-related NGOs and companies both in NZ and internationally.
Gary was previously the CEO of DPA for a decade and, before that, a scientific software developer for GNS Science.
His particular “Board” passion is good governance which supports exceptional management and staff. Other sector Boards he’s on are Imagine Better, Access Ability, SAMS and the Barrier Free NZ Trust. Outside the sector, he’s a Trustee of the Nga Hau e Wha National Marae.
Gary was made a Member of the NZ Order of Merit for his work nationally and internationally.
He and his wife, Ruth Jones, are Christchurch-based consultants to the sector. Their major focus, at present, is leading a collaborative project to ensure that post-earthquake Christchurch genuinely caters for disabled people. Because he uses Manawanui in Charge to host his Individualised Funding package, Gary’s focus is ensure the company continually develops and maintains world-leading services.
