Individualised Funding

What is Individualised Funding?

Individualised Funding is a form of funding for people needing disability support. Individualised Funding can give you more choice, control and flexibility as you decide WHO delivers your support services and WHEN and HOW they do it. That mean you get the help you need exactly when you need it.

How does it work?

With Individualised Funding, you are allocated support hours which are then translated to an annual budget, which you can then choose how/what you spend it on. Together with a Manawanui Coach, you develop a personal plan about what you want your life to look like and how you’re going to achieve this.

You are responsible for purchasing the support you need and/or employing staff and all the responsibilities that go along with being an employer.

What can Individualised Funding be used for?

This depends on what programme you are under.

For Ministry of Health’s Disability Support Services, IF can be used for:

  • Personal Care services that assist with daily living, e.g. personal hygiene, feeding, mobility, etc.
  • Household Management services which assist a person to maintain, organise and control their household/home environment, e.g. cleaning, laundry and meal preparation
  • Respite services
  • Carer Support (if you also have a Respite allocation)

For disability support funded through the District Health Board, IF can be used for:

  • Personal Care services that assist with daily living, e.g. personal hygiene, feeding, mobility, etc.
  • Household Management services which assist a person to maintain, organise and control their household/home environment, e.g. cleaning, laundry and meal preparation
  • Advanced personal care

What can’t Individualised Funding be used for?

  • Other Ministry of Health funded disability supports
  • Disability supports that are fully or partly funded by other government agencies or public organisations, such as ACC, housing modifications therapy.
  • Anything that a non-disabled person would be expected to provide from their own money such as rent, bills, professional services, donations, alcohol and tobacco.
  • Community and government services-e.g. health, education, welfare benefits, employment support and CYFs (Child, Youth and Family services).
