What is Enabling Good Lives?
Enabling Good Lives helps people with disabilities achieve their goals. This could be participating in education, gaining employment, communicating, moving about, building relationships or being more involved in the community. Unlike Individualised Funding, Enabling Good Lives also allows people to purchase goods, as well as services to help them pursue their goals.
The Enabling Good Lives programme is currently being trialled in Christchurch and the Waikato region. The three-year Christchurch Demonstration Project started in 2014, while the three-year Waikato Demonstration Project got underway mid-2015.

How does it work?
In the same way as Individualised Funding does, EGL translates support hours into an annual budget which you then control. Where it differs is that it combines disability funding from different government agencies together. For example in the Christchurch demonstration project, you can combine your Ministry of Heath disability funding with your Ministry of Education ORS funding and Ministry of Social Development vocational funding. In the Waikato demonstration project you pool your Ministry of Health and Social Development funding.
What can EGL be used for?
This depends on whether you are in the Christchurch or Waikato demonstration project. You need to talk to the navigator about this.
Can I get EGL?
The two Demonstration Projects have different referral processes and eligibility criteria, so please check with each programme for more information.
